Understanding how Sustainable AI can support Climate and Health research

Unlocking new research capabilities through efficient and ethical AI systems.

  • Status: Active

At the Net Positive Centre, we are working on Sustainable AI to understand how everyday use of AI across the University affects our sustainable goals.

As AI tools become a part of our everyday tasks in teaching, research and professional services, their hidden impacts—energy, water and resource use—are not yet well understood. This project aims to build an evidence base for Net Positive, working with staff and students to co‑produce guidance that supports lower‑impact digital practices.

We are also developing an agentic AI approach to help keep pace with the rapid growth of climate–health research. By working with Net Positive Centre partners, the project tests how carefully designed, human‑guided AI systems can speed up evidence synthesis while maintaining rigour and trust. This enables more responsive insights into climate adaptation and mitigation, helping the Centre translate expanding scientific evidence into better policy and practice.
