Appendices – Net+ Centre Summary

The Centre for Health and Climate Change Solutions (Net+ Centre) is a national focus for research, networking and research capacity building funded for 5 years by UK Research and Innovation.

Its aim is to identify the ‘net-positive’ for health and climate solutions – reducing the negative impacts of climate change while maximising the health co-benefits of interventions, and provides the basis for furthering scientific advances, policy advice and innovation.

Climate change is an urgent health issue that’s reshaping how we live, from rising heat, shifting disease patterns, and mental health stress.

By rethinking our cities, growing greener spaces, and transforming food systems, we can reduce emissions and ensure we’re not just responding to change but helping to shape a healthier, fairer and more resilient future.

An integrated interdisciplinary team of academics, analysts, other professionals and publics with experience across research, policy and practice are involved in the Net+ Centre. Creative practice and the role of creative practitioners in the development of the research has been central to the Centre’s approach from the beginning.

The Net+ Centre is a partnership with a diverse set of organisations across the public, and not for-profit sectors. Public engagement cuts across all of its activities ensuring dialogue and co-creation is at the heart of the Centre’s work (working with schools, community groups, patients etc). Sustainability, equality, diversity and inclusion are foundational principles and the Centre is working with many disproportionately impacted groups. One of the main aims of the centre is to reduce climate-related health inequalities across the UK through its outputs.

The Net+ Centre is firmly committed to creating an environment where everyone feels supported and safe, and where diversity is celebrated and valued.

Net+ have three topic areas they are particularly interested in looking at:

Resilient Urban Environments

Resilient green and blue infrastructure

Resilient Food Systems
